Join us for an award-winning film as it premieres in Jackson at Center for the Arts. For more than 20 years, artist Robert Townsend has painted mid-century Americana subjects including candy wrappers, matchbooks, and neon signs. Then came Helen, his muse. Robert discovered Helen tucked away in a box of Kodachrome slides he purchased on ebay. With her beehive hairstyle and cat eye glasses, Helen has inspired Robert to paint large canvases that remind us of road trips and a time gone by.

“I think She’s teaching a lesson – to me – about celebrating life.” - Robert Townsend

The film follows Robert's journey as he paints Helen, her husband Roy, and their friends. The art becomes life as Robert dives in and visits the places Helen traveled, and meets the people from her life. Helen is our aunt, our neighbor, the woman at the grocery store, and the film helps us discover that the precious lives we lead should be cherished as Robert does with Helen and her family and friends.
